NBTF 2022 Youth Talent Showcase:


The Pointe! Studio of Dance was honored to perform recently at the 60th Anniversary of the Sit in Movement and Civil Rights Gala.  This is an annual fundraising  and awards gala celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Sit-In Movement which launched from the historic F.W. Woolworth building on February 1, 1960.  This event marked the tenth anniversary of the Museum's opening.

The evening featured the following honorees:      
Alston/Jones International Civil & Human Rights Award President Barack Obama   (Invited honoree)  
Lifetime Achievement Award - Rev. Al Sharpton
Trailblazer Award - Danny Glover (Invited honoree) 
Unsung Hero - Ms. Clayola Brown
Lifetime Community Service Award - Rev. Dr. Cardes H. Brown, Jr.
Sit-Participant Award - Dr. Linda Brown and Mrs. Emma Washington

​Dandara Boyd has been teaching African dance in Greensboro for nearly 12 years, along with her husband Allen as lead musician. Dandara loves African Dance and gets excited sharing it with others. She started dancing with the E. Gwynn Dancers of NC A&T State University and went on to dance with Otesha Creative Arts Ensemble for several years. She has performed along the east coast in concerts, plays, and community events.

Alfred Gallman called an "artistic son" by Alvin Ailey has been a master teacher and choreographer for over 39 years. He has worked with the giants in the dance and theater world including Alvin Ailey, Talley Beatty, Fred Benjamin, Pepsi Bethel, Gary Deloatch, George Faison, Geoffrey Holder and Eleo Pomare. He has created over 150 ballets for companies such as Gallman's Newark Dance Theatre, Washington Reflection Contemporary Dance Company, Uptown Dance Academy, Nanette Bearden Contemporary Dance Company, Opus Dance Company, Garden State Ballet and the Terpsichorean Dance Company of Teaneck High School who holds 60 of Mr. Gallman's works.                                                                         
            
Mr. Gallman toured with the national touring company of the Tony Award winning musical "The Wiz". He was a soloist for 8 years with the Fred Benjamin Dance Company performing in all the largest festival and venue in New York tri-state area. Alfred performed in Japan as a soloist with the Munakata Jazz Dance Company. He choreographed and directed Queen Esther Marrow and the Harlem Gospel Singers 50 city European tour, "Sounds of Blackness" debut video "Optimistic", Motown recording recording artist "Blaze" music video "We All Must Live Together", "Soul By The Sea" TV Special in Jamaica, directed/choreographed Bishop Nathaniel Townsley musical play "Follow the Star" featuring Melba Moore, Ralph Carter, Ben Vereen, Keith "Wonder Boy" Johnson, Natalie Wilson and his Gospel Jubilee Singers including Demetrius Griffin, Shawn Crawford, Lady Mary Townsley, Jacinda Townsley Lee, Sylvia Ruth, Kathleen Schumate, Ella Mitchell and Andrea Vereen. Lisa Attles performed Gallman's work Mother's Prayer at the White House for the Reagan Administration. Alfred Gallman directed/choreographed Bishop Townsley's musical production "Jubilee" Jazz and Gospel Festival which toured South Africa. He choreographed the Hip Hop musical "Making It" in Las Vegas directed by Tony Award winner George Faison with music by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and rap by Heavy D, directed/choreographed "The Wiz" at NJPAC in Newark, NJ and choreograph East Carolina University's production of "Colored Girls Who Considered Suiside When the Rainbow Is Enough". Mr Gallman's works have been been performed in Germany, Spain, London, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Japan  and Canada.                                                               

            
Alfred Gallman has work with singers, actors and dancers including Aretha Franklin, Loretta Devine, Little Jimmy Scott, Vanessa L. Williams, Cheryl Lynn, Gwen Gunthrey, Phyllis Stickney, Gabrielle Casseus, Ellen Cleghorne, Elliah English, Ebony Joann, Ricky Bell, Tina Fabriique, Obba Babatunde, MC Lite and Dizzy Gillespie.
